Looking for some nice ways to make your manicure last longer?

One of the most common issues that a lot of people face when they get their manicure done is that it doesn’t last, one thing or the other would happen that would make it hard for the manicure to last as long as it should.

This is something I myself have faced, so I understand how frustrating it can be to get your manicure done and your fingers look so beautiful and amazing, only for a few days later the polish start to chip away, and then your fixed nails have been ruined.

This issue is what I am here to address, in this post I’m going to share with you some tips on how to make your manicure last longer, I will also share with you a couple of reasons why manicure doesn’t last for a lot of people.

1. Do Not Apply Too Many Coats

This is one mistake a lot of us make, and I used to make it too.

After applying base coat, and the top coat, one to three coats of your choice of color is enough.

If you apply more than this, then your polish will likely chip off as it mostly does when your manicure doesn’t last.

It is also best that you avoid picking a color that would need many coats, or you can tell your manicurist to reduce the amount of coats to two or three even if your choice of color would normally need a lot of coats.

This will help your manicure last way longer.

So make sure you remember this when next you plan to visit the salon.

2. Add A Topcoat To Your Manicure

I know what you’re thinking, didn’t I just say you shouldn’t add too many coats, this is a different case entirely.

Adding a topcoat is different, as you need to reapply a topcoat every 2 to 3 days.

This is to add a fresh layer that protects your nail polish, and it also helps to retain its strength.

The best part is this can also be done with a gel manicure, but only if you have your home UV light.

Apply a thin layer of topcoat all over your entire nail, then complete the edges with a thin layer for the best result.

3. Make Use Of Gloves When You Clean

Another very common mistake that a lot of us make after getting our manicure done is not wearing gloves when using harsh cleaning materials.

I recommend you wear gloves anytime you want to clear no matter what material or product you’re making use of.

Dried out hands and nails are very common when you use foamy bleach or detergent to clean out a tough stains.

Your manicure won’t be able to survive such a thing, so to have your manicure last, always wear gloves when you want to clean no matter what you want to win.

4. Don’t Cut The Nails, File It Instead

If you’re the type who likes to cut down your nails to give it a new look, or if you’re tired of the long nails and want it short, filing it works better than cutting it.

File it down instead of using manicure scissors or nail clippers.

This makes the polish last longer, when you file rather than cut, it reduces hard edges and angles, it allows the polish to last longer and cover the edges better.

5. Maintenance & Nail Preparation

Proper maintenance and preparation are very important to getting a long-lasting manicure.

Remove oil and residue by cleaning your nails properly before using polish, this would help the polish to stick properly and last longer.

Also dryness often leads to chipping and some peeling, regular dampening of your nails and your cuticles is a good way to get rid of the dryness, chipping and occasional peeling.

The Real Reasons Why Manicure Doesn’t Last

There are a few common reasons why a manicure doesn’t last for a lot of people, it is important to know what they are alongside the hacks to getting a long-lasting manicure listed above:

1. The Technique Of Application

This is one of the most common reasons why manicure doesn’t last, this is common when you do your manicure yourself.

However, some manicurist also make mistakes, while others don’t use proper techniques.

If your manicure wasn’t applied properly, it won’t last, it would chip off quickly and peel off as well.

2. Shape & Length Of The Nails

The shape and length of your nails can also affect how long your nails last.

When the nails are pointy and long, they would easily break and chip, shorter nails with rounded edges tend to last longer.

3. Habits And Lifestyle

Here is another very common issue that doesn’t allow manicure to last as long as it should.

The daily lifestyle of people affects manicure, this is especially common for people who have busy lives, people who have to wash their hands regularly; having their hands exposed to harsh chemicals, or a lot of reoccurring tasks.

Conclusion

There are really so many ways that your manicure can be made to last longer, I have listed a few of the most common and some of the most important ways above, they are tried and tested, and they have proven to work.

Using proper techniques, not applying too many coats, making use of gloves, maintenance, filing the nails rather than cutting, and more can all increase how long your nails would last, so it is highly important to pay attention and apply these hacks to your manicures from now on.
